ABOUT

I would describe myself as an ‘intuitive’ artist, driven by experimentation, new ideas & new media.  My fascination with vivid colours, movement and mixed media carry the paintings that emerge on my canvas with as much depth and intensity as I possibly can conjure so as to bring them to life.

I developed a passion for drawing and painting from a very young age.

Over the years I have painted or studied art alongside my academic studies to become an occupational therapist.

I love mixed media, such as gouache and pastel, pencil and water-paints, collage, acrylics, gouache and etching.

My main inspiration comes from the French and British Impressionists and Post Impressionists, my favourite being Cezanne as well as Degas, Monet and the Bloomsbury set. The simpler, understated paintings appeal to me the most.

I am happiest sitting on my balcony looking over the beautiful view and my garden, whilst reading a book, with a cup of tea or a glass of sherry nearby.

'Practice makes perfect. The idea is to gain control/mastery  over the medium and composition, to be able to perform freely without the constraint of thinking about technique. My problem is once mastery is gained, I get into a rut, and then I need to find a new technique to master. It is a never ending process, while the learning of new techniques often adds an edge and enables creativity.'
